Seiko Prospex Solar SNJ033P1

The Seiko Prospex SNJ033P1 is a model that has become an icon partially by being an amazing watch, but also due to a certain Austrian actor. Before you start digging through your Austrian cinema pub quiz knowledge, we can reveal it’s the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger. He wore this piece (or to be precise, the watch upon this re-issue was based) in several of his beloved action films and that really helped turned this model into an icon and caused people the bestow the ‘Arnie’ nickname upon it.

Now, it wouldn’t do justice to the watch by simply pointing to a celebrity wearing it, as the watch has some incredible merits to it. Introduced in the 80s it embraced the great ana-digi combination, where a watch has both an analog display and digital features combined.

It features the brand new Seiko Cal. H855 movement which is solar powered and accurate to approximately 15 seconds per monthand a battery life up to 6 months. It has a plethora of functions embedded, such as a chronograph, alarm, calendar and a second timezone. But also brand new features such as depth measuring and a diving log.

The ‘Arnie’ is an excellent blend of watches; not just ana and digi and the respective features, but also as a diving and a casual/sports watch with the diving bezel, a fine bracelet and 200m water resistance. This is one of those watches that can do it all. Provided you are exposed to sunlight every few months.

In terms of size it comes in at 46.9mm diameter, although the lug to lug to is still relatively manageable at 50.9mm, which means it will have an impressive presence on your wrist, while not being overly large. It’s up to you to hit the gym like a certain Austrian if you wish to dwarf this watch, but for anyone else keen on adventure, this will be an outstanding watch in more than 1 way!
